Dave Patenaude is in his third season on the Crusader coaching staff, and his first year as the wide receivers and special teams coach. He served as the running backs coach during his first two seasons at Holy Cross, helping direct the career of two-time All-America tailback Steve Silva, who led the nation in all-purpose yards last fall.Patenaude came to Holy Cross from the University of New Haven, where he served as head coach for two seasons. He developed a number of talented players during his time with the Chargers, including two standouts who are currently playing in the National Football League -- offensive lineman Phil Bogle (Cleveland Browns) and linebacker Sarth Benoit (Minnesota Vikings). In addition, quarterback Rob D'Innocenzio threw for a New Haven school record 501 yards against Western Washington in 2002.Prior to his time at New Haven, Patenaude spent four years at Columbia University, serving as the the wide receivers and quarterbacks coach for three years before taking over as the offensive coordinator in 2001. During the 2001 season, his offense averaged 344 total yards per game, including 219 passing yards per contest. The Lions also totaled 256 points in 10 games in 2000, the most points scored by a Columbia team in 75 years.Previously, Patenaude spent four seasons as an assistant at Fordham University, where he coached the quarterbacks, wide receivers, tight ends and special teams. He also coaching the running backs and wide receivers at Springfield College (1992-1993) and the running backs at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy (1991).Patenaude is a 1990 graduate of Central Connecticut State University, where he was a three-year starting quarterback and free safety. He went on to earn his master's degree from Springfield College in 1994.Patenaude and his wife, Christine, have one daughter, Eva.
