John Hoogasian enters his 30th season as an assistant coach for the Holy Cross track and field team in 2021-22. Hoogasian served as an assistant coach for the Crusaders from December 1991 to June 2008 and returned to the position in February of 2010. Hoogasian was an assistant coach for the UMass track and field team for the 2008-2009 season.

Hoogasian brings nearly 50 years of coaching experience to Holy Cross, specializing in horizontal and vertical jumps, along with sprints. He has coached several Holy Cross record holders in the pole vault and decathlon, including Christa Jay Moore, who became the first Holy Cross vaulter to qualify for an NCAA championship in 2019 and owns school and Patriot League outdoor records in the event at 4.05 meters. Moore also owns the school record, clearing 4.08 meters in the spring of 2021 against Rhode Island. 

From 1975 to 1991, Hoogasian served as the head cross country coach at Worcester State, along with coaching the indoor and outdoor track and field teams. Hoogasian has been the regional chairperson for USA Track and Field Pole Vault Development since 1991, and is a former national coach for USATF Pole Vault Development.

Hoogasian received his PhD from the University of Connecticut in 1986. He is a retired U.S. Army lieutenant colonel and served four tours of duty in the global war on terror.
