Scott Black is in his first year as an assistant men’s soccer coach at the College of the Holy Cross in 2026. Black is heavily involved with all facets of the program, including skill instruction, game preparation and recruiting.
Black joined the Crusaders after spending the last six years with the Intercontinental Football Academy of New England, where he served as the MLS Next coach, college placement director and technical director. Black led programming and directed the college support network for over 3,500 student-athletes and families, ensuring equitable access to college athletics through inclusive, high-quality advising, presentations and recruitment tools.
Black previously spent 13 seasons on the coaching staff at Boston University from 2007-2019, including four years as associate head coach. He helped lead the Terriers to three NCAA Tournament appearances and four conference regular season titles, with the team going unbeaten (6-0-3) in Patriot League play in 2014. Boston University went 110-98-33 overall during his time on the staff, including four seasons with double figure victories. Black was a part of the America East Conference Coaching Staff of the Year in 2008, 2010 and 2011, while coaching and recruiting 44 all-conference players.
Prior to his time at Boston University, Black served as the associate head coach and recruiting coordinator at Virginia Tech in 2006. During his time there, he helped the Hokies to an NCAA Tournament appearance and an 11-8-1 record, setting the stage for a final four appearance the following season.
Previously, Black was an assistant coach at Penn State from 2001-2005. The Nittany Lions made the NCAA tournament in four out of his five years on the staff (including one Elite Eight and two Sweet Sixteen finishes), while winning two Big Ten regular season championships and one Big Ten Tournament title. Penn State ended the 2002 season ranked No. 8 in the nation, while finishing the 2005 season ranked No. 10.
A native of Nottingham, England, Black played soccer at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay from 1996-1999, serving as a team captain and earning all-conference honors three times. Following his collegiate career, he played two seasons with the USL D3 Pro-League Cape Cod Crusaders, serving as team captain and also as director of media and public relations for Mass Pro Soccer in Boston, Mass.
Black earned a bachelor’s degree in communication and public relations from Wisconsin-Green Bay in 2000, and a master’s degree in education from Penn State in 2006. He holds both a UEFA 'A' Senior license and a UEFA 'Youth A' license with the Scottish FA. He has also received Premiere, Advanced National and National coaching diplomas from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
Black and his wife, Kristin, reside in Grafton, Mass., with their four children.
