Sam Matteson is in his third season as an assistant men’s soccer coach at the College of the Holy Cross in 2022. During his first two years on the staff, he helped the squad to a pair of appearances in the Patriot League Tournament.

Prior to joining the Crusaders, Matteson spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Bryant. He helped the Bulldogs to a runner-up finish in the Northeast Conference in 2018, with the team advancing to the NEC semifinals in 2019.

Matteson was previously an assistant coach at Bridgewater State during the 2016 and 2017 seasons, helping the Bears to the MASCAC semifinals in 2016. He was also the associate head coach at Wheelock in 2015, and spent three years on the staff at New Haven from 2012-2014.

In addition to his collegiate coaching experience, Matteson is the USL Director for the Boston Bolts, coaching at the ECNL and Academy levels.

A 2010 graduate of Mitchell College with a bachelor’s degree in sport and fitness management, Matteson was a four-year members of the Mariners’ men’s soccer team and helped the program win New England Collegiate Conference titles in 2006 and 2008. He went on to receive a master’s degree in sport management from New Haven in 2013, and holds a United States Soccer Federation C license and National Soccer Coaches Association of America Level 3 diploma.
