WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross softball team concluded the 2024-25 regular season with a final game against Bucknell for Senior Day on Sunday, May. 4. A tough battled ended with the Bison taking the 6-4 win over the Crusaders.
Holy Cross celebrated the Class of 2025 in a pre-game Senior Day ceremony. Senior captains Emma Fong, Jena Whipple and Callie Thibault comprise the senior class.
CRUSADERS 4, BISON 6 (FINAL)
STARTING IN THE CIRCLE:
- Holy Cross: Sophia Roncone (L, 4-18), 5.0 innings pitched, 10 hits allowed, five runs, five earned, two strikeouts.
- Bucknell: Sarah Zimmerman, 2.0 innings pitched, four hits allowed, three runs, three earned, three strikeouts.
IN RELIEF:
- Holy Cross: Jordan Goedel, 2.0 innings pitched, one hit allowed, one run, one earned.
- Bucknell: Madison Roukey (W, 7-16-), 5.0 innings pitched, five hits allowed, one run, one earned, four strikeouts.
STEPPING TO THE PLATE:
- Kate Trudgen: 2-for-3, one home run, one run scored, one RBI.
- Ava Gambichler: 2-for-3, one double, two RBIs.
- Anna Brait: 1-for-4, one RBI.
- Haley Speicher: 3-for-5, one double, one run scored, two RBIs.
- Brooke Popella: 1-for-3, one home run, one run scored, one RBI.
- Angelina Seropian, 2-for-2, one run scored, one RBI.
- Savannah Jones: 1-for-3, three RBIs.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Bison came out swinging to start the game, getting two players and in scoring position. Bucknell's Savannah Jones drove in the first run on a sacrifice fly RBI for the 1-0 lead.
- Jones struck again in the top of the second with a two-RBI single to left center field for the 3-0 advantage. The Crusaders battled back in the bottom of the inning with sophomore Ava Gambichler crushing a two-RBI double to left center to bring Holy Cross within one.
- Freshman Kate Trudgen smashed a leadoff homer, the first of her career, to tie the game 3-3 in the bottom of the third.
- The Crusaders took the lead in the bottom of the fourth on a junior Anna Brait RBI single to center field to score Fong.
- Bucknell reclaimed the lead in the top of the fifth on a Brooke Popella solo home run and a Skye Perez RBI single through the left side for the 5-4 result.
- The Bison tacked on one more run in the top of the seventh to take the 6-4 win over Holy Cross.
UP NEXT:
- The Crusaders conclude the 2025 season with an 8-37 overall and 1-17 conference record.
