WORCESTER, Mass. – Junior captain Mary Sommer of the Holy Cross women's soccer team has been named to the Academic All-League Team, as announced by the Patriot League on Wednesday.
Sommer, a history major, earned a cumulative grade point average of 3.920, concluding the spring of her sophomore year. She played in every game this season as a captain and leader of the Holy Cross back line, racking up 1723 minutes of action. As a key part of the Crusader defense, she helped the team to six shutouts, six wins and six ties.
Off the field, Sommer has volunteered her time with Working for Worcester and at a food pantry back home. The captain worked as a summer Pre-K assistant teacher.
To be eligible for the Scholar-Athlete of the Year award and the Academic All-Patriot League Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and be a starter or key player within their sport. Freshmen or student-athletes in their first academic year at their school are not eligible for the honor.
The Holy Cross women's soccer team concluded the 2025 season with a 6-7-6 overall and 3-3-3 conference record and a fourth-place team finish. The Crusaders will return to action in the fall of 2026.
