KINGSTON, R.I. – The Holy Cross softball team concluded their eight game road trip falling to nonconference foe Rhode Island 2-1 and 4-1 Wednesday afternoon at the URI Softball Complex.
The setbacks were the 26th and 27th of the season for the Crusaders while the wins moved the Rams to 10-31 overall.
Sophomore
Ali Sniegocki recorded her third three hit game of the season in game one with a 3-for-4 effort. She joins freshman Ava Gambichler as the only Crusaders with a trio of three hit performances.

GAME ONE: RAMS 2, CRUSADERS 1 (FINAL)

STARTING IN THE CIRCLE:
- Katie Zaun: W, (4-11), 5.0 innings pitched, five hits allowed, two walks.
- Sophomore Sophia Roncone: L, (4-12), complete game, six hits allowed, two earned runs, walk, two strikeouts.
IN RELIEF:
- Ashley Hibbard: S, (2), 2.0 innings pitched, three hits allowed, earned run, strikeout.
STEPPING TO THE PLATE:
- Sophomore Ali Sniegocki: 3-for-4.
- Senior Claire: McCann: 2-for-2, RBI, walk.
- Senior Jessica Mott: 1-for-3, run scored, walk.
- Skyler Rapuano: 2-for-3, two RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Rams took the lead in the first singling up the middle for two runs and the 2-0 edge.
- Trailing 2-0 in the sixth, three straight singles for the Crusaders including one through right side by McCann brought Holy Cross within one, 2-1. An error loaded the bases with no outs. Rhode Island retired the next three batters to end the inning.

STARTING IN THE CIRCLE:
- Ashley Hibbard: W, (4-4), complete game, five hits allowed, earned run, three strikeouts.
- Senior Megan Yurchick: L, (4-14), 3.0 innings pitched, four hits allowed, earned run, three walks, strikeout. Â
IN RELIEF:
- Sophia Roncone: 3.0 innings pitched, four hits allowed, three earned runs, three walks, four strikeouts.
STEPPING TO THE PLATE:
- Freshman Emma Pietrzak: 1-for-3, RBI.
- Junior Callie Thibault: 1-for-2, sacrifice.
- Sydney Yoder: 2-for-3, RBI, run scored.
- Elena Gonzalez: 1-for-3, double, two RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Back-to-back one out singles combined with a two out walk loaded the bases for URI in the second inning. Yurchick struck out a batter looking to end the scoring threat.
- The Rams jumped ahead in the fourth via a lead off double and single down the left field line for the 1-0 lead. Rhode Island loaded the bases with no outs. Roncone struck out the next two batters, but issued back-to-back walks as the Rams expanded their lead to 3-0.
- A two out RBI double to center field in the sixth produced an insurance run for the hosts.
- Holy Cross tried to rally in the seventh loading the bases with one down. Pietrzak singled down the line trimming the deficit to 4-1. Three pitches later, the game was over.
DUE UP:
- Holy Cross returns to the friendly confines of Freshman Field on Saturday, April 20 against Patriot League foe Colgate.
- First pitch is slated for noon.
