ORONO, Maine – The Holy Cross women's soccer team made their way to Maine to face off with the Bears on Thursday afternoon. The Crusaders grabbed an early lead in the first half but a last minute goal by Maine ended the match in a 1-1 tie.

In the first half, senior midfielder Sydney Baldwin took a free kick and served the ball into the box for senior forward Cerys Balmer to bury into the back of the net off a header. Balmer has now scored the first two goals of the season for her third goal in her career.

In the second half, the Bears Elle Vermilya scored with 11 seconds left on the clock to conclude the game with a score of 1-1.

"I thought we were fantastic for 89 minutes and 49 seconds and we should be rightly proud of our performance. But, the game is 90 minutes long and we need to learn how to manage games a little better so we can come out with a win," said head coach Ben Graham. "But, I thought we were brilliant for the most part and shows the girls just how good we can be."

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• In the first half, Balmer headed in a goal off a free kick at the 25:10 mark to take an early lead over the Bears.

• With 11 seconds left in the match Maine scored to end the game in a 1-1 tie.

• The Bears out-shot the Crusaders 7-5 and led Holy Cross 6-3 in corners.

• Both goalkeepers had three saves a piece.

• Balmer leads the team in goals with the first two of the season.
