Freshman
Oliver Brown of the Holy Cross baseball team has been named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week for action from March 28 to April 3, the conference announced.
Brown was key in Holy Cross' two Patriot League victories over Bucknell on Monday, April 3.
Making his first two career starts at second base, Brown batted .714 (5-for-7) with two doubles, three RBI and two runs scored. In a 7-4 Game 1 win, he hit 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and three runs batted in before a 3-for-4 showing with two runs in Game 2.
Brown has appeared in 14 games this year, including seven contests on the mound, and is batting .636 (7-for-11) in that span with three doubles. He has pitched 14.1 innings on the season and ranks third on the team with 18 strikeouts.
This is now the second consecutive week that a Crusader has earned Patriot League Rookie of the Week, as freshman right-handed pitcher
Danny Macchiarola was selected on March 28. In total, three different Holy Cross student-athletes have been named Rookie of the Week, with right fielder
Jack Toomey (Feb. 28) previously being honored.
Brown and the Crusaders return to action on Wednesday, April 5 with a non-conference game against Merrimack. First pitch is set for 5 p.m. at Fitton Field.
