Field hockey defeats Davidson

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross women's field hockey team downed the Davidson Wildcats, 4-1.

The win sends the Crusaders to 3-7 and the Wildcats to 3-6 on the season. Sophomore forward Meggan Fourie led the game with two goals and one assist.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Just 1:11 into the first quarter, junior forward Allie McDonough notched her first goal of the game with assists from junior forward Sarah Potter and senior defender Gabby Venezia off of a penalty corner.
  • At 5:05 of the second quarter, McDonough capitalized on another corner attempt with an assist from Fourie.
  • Davidson's lone goal of the day came at 5:41 of the second quarter from Charlie Kabelac, bringing the score to 2-1 in favor of Holy Cross.
  • Fourie dominated the second half beginning with a goal coming at 0:33 with an assist from senior forward Isabella Henderson.
  • The final goal of the day came when Venezia fired a shot towards goal and Fourie tipped it in to find the back of the cage after a penalty corner, securing the 4-1 victory for the Crusaders.
 
OUTSIDE THE BOX:
  • Holy Cross was successful in scoring off of three of their four corner attempts.
  • The Crusaders held the slight edge in overall shots, 15-14.
  • Both junior Brooke Ross and senior Emma Lauber saw time in the cage during the contest. Ross totaled seven saves on the day.
UP NEXT:
  • The Crusaders will return to Providence, R.I. to face Providence College on Sunday, Oct. 2 at 1 p.m.
