Field hockey falls to Bryant

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Holy Cross field hockey team fell 3-4 to the Bryant Bulldogs on Sunday, Sept. 11.

The loss sends the Crusaders to 1-5 and the Bulldogs to 2-4 on the season. Olivia Clarke led the day for Bryant with two goals, including the game-winning goal.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Sophomore forward Meggan Fourie notched her first goal of the season at 12:15 of the first quarter to gain the early lead for Holy Cross. She was assisted by junior forward Allie McDonough.
  • Junior midfielder Katie Guden followed up with a goal off of a corner attempt rebound at 14:05 of the first quarter.
  • After holding Bryant scoreless for the first half, Brittany Gouws found the back of the net 5:04 into the third quarter.
  • Shortly after, Clarke tied the game off of a corner attempt, bringing the score to 2-2 at 6:14 of the third quarter.
  • On a penalty corner attempt, Fourie scored her second goal of the contest with an assist from Sinead Walsh 12:21 into the third quarter to gain the lead for Holy Cross.
  • The Bulldogs tied the score again when Lotte Guitink capitalized on another corner attempt at 14:47 of the third quarter.
  • Clarke scored the final goal of the day at 4:03 of the fourth quarter to bring the score to 4-3, in favor of the Bulldogs.

OUTSIDE THE BOX:
  • Bryant held the advantage in shots, 16-13.
  • Junior defender Haley Davis earned two defensive saves for Holy Cross and senior defender Gabby Venezia earned one.
  • Junior goaltender Brooke Ross made six saves in comparison to Bryant's three.
UP NEXT:
  • The Crusaders will host their first Patriot League opponent, Bucknell, on Saturday, Sept. 17 at 11 am on the newly renovated Hart Turf.
