Field Hockey earns overtime win on senior day

Worcester, Mass. – The Holy Cross field hockey team defeated the Towson Tigers 2-1 in overtime on senior day. This Sunday contest was the final game of the 2022 season for the Crusaders.

The win sends the Crusaders to 7-10 overall with a 2-4 record in Patriot League play. The Tigers fall to 5-13 overall. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The game remained scoreless after three quarters until junior Sarah Potter batted one in with eight minutes remaining in regulation. She was assisted by sophomore Meggan Fourie, her fifth of the year.
  • Towson received a penalty corner with 11 seconds remaining in the game. They managed the equalizing goal, sending the game into overtime.
  • The Crusaders were awarded a penalty corner at 68:50. Junior Allie McDonough took a shot that was saved by the Tigers, then scored the game-winner from the rebound.
OUTSIDE THE BOX:
  • McDonough finishes second in team standings for most goals.
  • Fourie ties senior Sinead Walsh for most assists on the year.
  • The Crusaders led in corners, 14-9.
  • Holy Cross led in shots 18-15, while the Tigers had more shots on goal (7-5). 
  • Senior Emma Lauber recorded six saves on the day in her final game at Holy Cross.
