WORCESTER, Mass.— Freshman
Meggan Fourie scored the lone goal of the game to give the Holy Cross field hockey team a, 1-0, victory in its home opener against Sacred Heart on Sunday afternoon.
After a scoreless opening stanza,
Meggan Fourie broke the deadlock in the second with her second goal of the season. The goal marked Fourie's first career game-winning goal. Junior
Isabella Henderson posted her first assist of the season on the goal.
Holy Cross' defense held strong for the final two quarters, fending off eight more shots to keep the shutout alive. Sophomore goalie
Brooke Ross posted the first shutout of her career and made two saves on the day.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Meggan Fourie now leads the Crusaders with five points off two goals and one assist.
- The win marks Holy Cross' second straight shutout victory over the Pioneers.
- The Crusaders won their home opener for the first time since 2016 when they defeated Siena, 3-2.
