WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross field hockey team fell to Lafayette 2-1 in overtime Sunday afternoon on Senior Day.
Neither team scored in the first half, with just three shots in total, two for the Crusaders and one for Lafayette, being recorded in the first 30 minutes of action.
The Leopards would get on the board first at the beginning of the third quarter when Audrey Sawers maneuvered her way into the circle and scored just inside the left post.
The Crusaders answered back just four minutes later when
Kristen Weber was able to knock the ball free through a crowd in front of the net to a waiting
Rachel Perry who had a wide open goal to shoot at and tie the game.
Both teams had a chance to win it in regulation as they each were award a corner in the final minute of the fourth, but neither could convert. With 30 seconds remaining in the first overtime period, the Leopards won another corner, but this time made the most of it as Simone Hefting deflected home a pass from Sawers for the win.
