Baseball prepares for Patriot League series against Army West Point

The Holy Cross baseball team will compete against Army West Point in a weekend Patriot League series on Saturday, March 27 and Sunday, March 28. The Crusaders will play a doubleheader on Saturday in West Point, N.Y., beginning at 1 p.m.; the weekend series will conclude in Worcester with a single game at 3 p.m. on Sunday.

Things To Know About the Crusaders (0-5, 0-3 Patriot League):
  • Holy Cross comes off its home opener against UMass on Wednesday, March 24, falling 6-2 to the Minutemen.
  • Senior shortstop Cam Meyer went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored against UMass. Senior right-hander Garret Keough had a strong start, throwing four hitless innings and striking out five. Keough leads the Crusaders with seven strikeouts in two appearances this year.
  • Freshman second baseman Sam Kirkpatrick – the reigning Patriot League Rookie of the Week – drove in a run against the Minutemen to bring his team-leading total to five RBI this season.
  • Sophomore right-hander Jack DiLauro started the first game of the Crusaders' Patriot League opener against Lafayette on March 20; he threw five hitless innings while giving up one unearned run and striking out five.
Things To Know About The Black Knights (4-11, 1-3 Patriot League):
  • Army West Point most recently competed in a Patriot League series at Bucknell on March 20 and 21, falling in three out of four contests. Their lone victory came in the weekend finale, with the Black Knights posting a 14-3 win.
  • In the victory, shortstop Kevin Dubrule went 2-for-3 with a triple and five RBI. Second baseman Tim Simoes went 3-for-4 with three RBI and a pair of runs scored.
  • Simoes leads the Black Knights this season with a .302 average in 13 games. Jeremiah Adams has posted a Patriot League-leading seven doubles and team-leading eight RBI.
  • Right-handed pitcher Ray Bartoli has allowed six earned runs in four appearances (17.0 innings pitched), while right-hander Patrick Melampy has started five contests – the most on the team – while allowing 10 earned runs over 23.1 innings.
Last Time They Met:
  • This will be the first meeting between Holy Cross and Army since the 2019 season.
  • The Crusaders and Black Knights last met in a Patriot League Tournament semifinal series, with Army taking Game 3 of a best-of-three series to advance to the Patriot League Championship.
  • During the regular season, Holy Cross won three out of its five contests against Army.
