Women's soccer opens 2021 spring season at home against Lafayette

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross women's soccer team will open its 2021 spring season against Lafayette at home this Saturday, March 13 at 12 p.m.

The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+.

Holy Cross (5-4-8, 3-1-5 PL in 2019):
  • Katie Quinn, Jenna Barnes, and Olivia Ferrara are the team's top returning scorers from last season. Quinn had two goals and two assists, Barnes scored once and assisted twice, and Ferrara recorded two goals.
  • Sophia Lettieri returns after a great year last season with career-best marks in save percentage (.810), goals against average (.88), and shutouts (6).
  • The Crusader defense allowed just 16 goals all of last season, good for third fewest in program history. It will be a storyline to follow to see who fills the holes left behind by three defensive starters lost to graduation.
Lafayette (7-6-5, 3-2-4 PL in 2019):
  • Lafayette's top two scorers from last year are both back in Krista Kissell and Sophie Saldivar. Kissell had four goals and six assists for 14 points, while Saldivar scored six times and assisted once for 13 points.
  • In goal, the Leopards return both halves of their goalkeeper duo. Maggie Pohl started all 18 games last year, but Natalie Neumann came in for the second half, and if the game got there, overtime in each of Lafayette's contests. Neumann's .821 save percentage was a team best, but Pohl's .89 goals against average led the squad.
  • The Leopards outshot Bucknell 24-6, 13-0 on goal, in their first game this season, but the matchup would end in a 0-0 tie. Saldivar led the way with eight shots, five of which were on goal.
Series History:
  • The Crusaders are 17-9-4 against the Leopards all-time, dating back to 1990.
  • In the last three meetings, Holy Cross holds the 1-0-2 advantage, with 1-1 ties last year and in 2017, and a 2-0 win in 2018.
  • In last year's tie, the Crusaders struck first off the foot of Quinn in the 35th minute, but the Leopards would answer in the 60th minute to tie the game. Despite Holy Cross holding the advantage in shots 4-2 in overtime, the game would end in a draw.
