NEWARK, Del. – The Holy Cross men's soccer team defeated Delaware, 3-2, on Oct. 16. Dylan Scanley scored twice and Rory Birse picked up his first collegiate goal to take down the Blue Hens.
In the opening half, the Blue Hens (2-6-2) opened the scoring on a corner kick in the 13th minute. The Crusaders (2-10) responded less than four minutes later when Max Krause chipped a ball around the Delaware defender and crossed the ball in the box to Dylan Scanley on the far post.
In the 23rd minute Delaware went ahead again, 2-1. The Crusaders' evened the score line once again as Krause sent a corner kick to the head of Rory Birse on the near post for the first of his career.
In an even second half, Scanley tallied his second of the night in the 85th minute to put Holy Cross ahead. Scanley chipped the ball around the Delaware keeper and shot into the open net for his third of the season.

"It was an overall good performance by the team. The elements of the wind and the rain were a lot to handle for both teams. It was a tremendous team effort and we showed more poise to score. It was a good result and it was certainly well deserved for the boys."
