WORCESTER, Mass. - The women's soccer team fell to Bryant University, 2-0, at home Thursday night. The loss is the Crusaders' first at home this season after winning their first two home games.
The game was a tale of two halves as the Bulldogs outshot Holy Cross, 10-2, in the first half and scored two goals in the first 45 as well. The Crusaders flipped the script in the second half, outshooting Bryant, 10-1. The only difference is that the Crusaders weren't able to find the back of the net.
Bryant's Cayla D'Amico got the scoring started in the 19th minute when she shot from the top right corner of the box to put the Bulldogs up, 1-0. The second goal came in the 36th minute when Corinne Rey took a shot that sophomore keeper Sophia Lettieri made a great save on, but Rey was right there for the rebound and buried it.
Holy Cross came out in the second half with a renewed energy and it showed. Sophomore Jenna Barnes was extremely active, creating multiple chances for herself and teammates. Senior Ang Seslija and junior Carly Flahive also had a couple good looks on goal, but neither were able to completely capitalize.
The Crusaders are back in action this Sunday when they travel to Rhode Island to take on Ivy League opponent, Brown.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Even after being outshot by nine in the first half, the Crusaders ended up outshooting the Bulldogs, 12-11.
- Holy Cross also held the advantage in corner kicks, 8-3.
- Lettieri made five saves on the day to Bryant's six.
