Postgame Interview with Annie Galvin & Highlights

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • After a back-and-forth opening 15 minutes, the Black Knights broke the stalemate in the 17th minute (16:39). Off a corner kick from Katie Holder, Clare Shea lobbed a shot on goal that found the lower right corner to give Army West Point the 1-0 lead.
  • Holy Cross, who did not register a shot on goal in the first half, came out strong in the second half with a trio of shots on target between the 54th and 59th minutes, but Army goalkeeper Jordan Cassalia made all three stops.
  • The Crusaders were able to tie the game at 1-1 in the 78th minute (77:56). Sophomore Aly Spencer (Tewksbury, Mass.) sent in a long pass to a streaking freshman Stephanie Lund (Walpole, Mass.). Lund gathered the ball and sent it across the box to the left side to Galvin, who converted from three yards out to knot the contest at 1-1.
  • In the final minute of regulation, the Crusaders found themselves with possession on Army West Point's side of the field. Junior Maggie Carey (Windham, N.H.) lobbed a shot into the middle of the box to freshman Andj Seslija (Sarajevo, Bosnia & Herzegovina) who headed it to Galvin at the left side of the goalmouth. Galvin collected the loose ball and drove it into the back of the net to clinch the victory for Holy Cross.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Holy Cross junior goalkeeper Brooke Holle (Upper Saddle River, N.J.) made eight stops in picking up her second win of the season, while Cassalia made four saves for Army West Point.
  • The Black Knights held the statistical advantage in total shots (16-10), shots on goal (9-6) and corner kicks (6-2). In the second half, however, Holy Cross had six shots on target to Army West Point's five.
  • Galvin led all players with three shots on goal in the contest.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:

  • Galvin's goals were her second and third of the season, which ties her for the team lead. Galvin has compiled 13 goals in her Holy Cross career, one shy of 10th place on the career goals list.
  • Seslija and Carey each recorded their first career assist.
  • Holy Cross is now 6-18-4 all-time against Army West Point and is 2-1-1 in the last four matchups with the Black Knights.

UP NEXT:

  • Holy Cross returns to action on Sunday, Oct. 4 when it hosts Navy for a 1:05 p.m. contest.
