HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The two teams battled back and forth in the first half, as Holy Cross doubled up Bryant in total shots, 8-4. Both teams had three shots on target apiece during the opening stanza.
  • In the second half, Holy Cross turned up its offensive pressure and outshot the Bulldogs, 14-5, but was unable to slip one into the back of the net.
  • Crusader junior goalkeeper Brooke Holle (Upper Saddle River, N.J.) made a critical save with 1:25 left in regulation. On a breakaway by Bryant's Kianna Woods, Holle charged out of the net to the top of the 18 and swarmed the ball for a save before Woods could put a good shot on target.
  • Spencer scored the game-winning goal in the 105th minute (104:15). The Crusaders sent a free kick into the box from 24 yards out. The Bryant defense attempted to clear the threat, but the ball found the foot of Spencer who buried the golden goal from the top third of the box to make the score its final, 1-0.
