POSTGAME INTERVIEW WITH COURTNEY COHAN AND HIGHLIGHTS

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Holy Cross broke the stalemate less than four minutes into the contest (3:40). Junior Courtney Cohen (Lake Grove, N.Y.) fed a pass to senior Annie Galvin (Attleboro, Mass.) on the left side of the box. Galvin sent the ball across the box to Callahan, who converted from three yards out to put the Crusaders ahead 1-0.
  • Forty seconds later (4:20) Callahan tallied her second marker of the contest off a pass from Cohen from the left side to give Holy Cross the 2-0 lead.
  • Just over three minutes into the second half, Holy Cross increased its lead to 3-0 (48:02). Cohen fed a long cross from the left side to Galvin in the middle of the box, who redirected the ball into the back of the net.
  • The Crusaders scored their final marker of the game in the 56th minute (55:28). Senior Jenna Scanlon (Auburn, Mass.) sent a free kick into the box from 30 yards out to classmate Megan Greineder (East Greenwich, R.I.) who headed the ball home from six yards out to make the score its final, 4-0.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Holy Cross freshman Emma Gurchiek (Barrington, R.I.) and junior Brooke Holle (Upper Saddle River, N.J.) combined to make three saves in goal for the hosts.
  • Saint Peter's goalkeepers Taylor McLean and Kelly Jamison made seven and five saves apiece, respectively.
  • Holy Cross held the statistical advantage in total shots (29-6), shots on goal (16-3) and corner kicks (6-3).
  • Callahan led all players with four shots on goal in the contest.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:

  • Cohen's three assists tie the program record for assists in a single game, as Audrey Smith accomplished the feat on Oct. 26, 1991 against Lafayette.
  • The two goals by Callahan give her three on the season, which ranks first on Holy Cross.
  • Galvin and Greineder recorded their first goals of the season.

UP NEXT:

  • Holy Cross returns to action on Monday, Sept. 14, when it travels to Fairfield for a 6:00 p.m. contest.
