THE BASICS:

  • The Lead: Quinnipiac's Nadya Gill scored the game-clinching goal in the 98th minute (97:58) to help lead the Bobcats to a 2-1 overtime-victory against Holy Cross in women's soccer action on Monday afternoon at QU Soccer Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Holy Cross struck first in the 12th minute (11:04), as sophomore forward Aly Spencer (Tewksbury, Mass.) cleaned up a loose ball in the middle of the box to give the Crusaders the 1-0 lead.
  • With just 19 seconds left in the first half, Quinnipiac tied the game at 1-1, as Madison Borowiec converted a corner kick from Kelly Caruso. Borowiec gathered the incoming pass from Caruso off one bounce and slipped the ball into the back of the net.
  • Holy Cross had a chance to break the tie in the 56th minute, as junior forward Courtney Cohen (Lake Grove, N.Y.) directed a corner kick from Spencer on goal, but the ball rang off the crossbar.
  • Gill's game-winning goal in the 98th minute came off an assist by Jenna Proctor.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Quinnipiac goalkeeper Natalia Grodzki made six saves for the hosts.
  • Crusader junior netminder Brooke Holle (Upper Saddle River, N.J.) and freshman goalie Emma Gurchiek (Barrington, R.I.) combined for five total stops with respective save totals of three and two.
  • The Bobcats held the 16-14 edge in total shots, while both teams had seven shots on goal apiece.
  • Quinnipiac led Holy Cross, 7-5, in corner kicks. 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • Spencer now has two goals and one assist this season for a team-high five points through two games. For her career, she has 13 goals and four assists for 30 collegiate points.
  • Quinnipiac moves to 8-4-1 all-time in games against Holy Cross.
