HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Jarvis sent Bucknell starter Dana Nielsen deep in the bottom half of the second inning as she rocketed the game's first run over the center field fence.
  • In the top of the third, Bucknell evened the score at 1-1 on a single to left field that allowed Jacee Almond to come around from second. The Bison threatened  with runners on second and third with two outs, but were unable to capitalize as Meghan Kovac grounded out to the shortstop to end the inning.
  • Nielsen exited the game after she allowed back-to-back hits in the bottom of the third from sophomore Emily Krisanda (Oak Hill, Va.) and freshman Taylor Moss (Howard Beach, N.Y.) and was relieved by Amanda Fazio. Jarvis knocked in the second Crusader run on a single up the middle to plate Krisanda.
  • Durham entered the game in relief for freshman pitcher Katy Watson (Bexley, Ohio) in the top of the fourth.
  • Emily Cox welcomed Durham into the game with a lead-off single to left field, who later plated on an RBI double to left field by Chalyen Andolino, tying the game for the second time at 2-2.
  • The Bison threatened in their half of the fifth frame with back-to-back hits by Fazio and Cydnee Sanders. Kristen Zahn hit an infield single to the shortstop and loaded the bases for Bucknell with no outs. Kovac hit into a fielder's choice that would have scored the go-ahead run for Bucknell, but Sanders was called out after she interfered with Krisanda in the base path. Durham was able to escape the inning unharmed as she retired the side in order.
  • Holy Cross got the go-ahead run in the bottom half of the fifth with junior Hailey Mullen (Plainville, Mass.) reaching on a bunt single and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by junior tri-captain Sarah Kane (Jacksonville, Fla.). Krisanda reached on an error committed by the center fielder that allowed Mullen to plate from third.
  • Through the final two innings, Durham surrendered two hits to the Bison and sealed the 3-2 victory after she struck out Christina Martinez with two outs and a runner on third.
