Spencer Lifts Holy Cross Women's Soccer To 2-1 Double-Overtime Win Over Bryant

THE BASICS:

  • Score: Holy Cross 2, Bryant 1 (2OT)
  • Records:  Holy Cross (4-0-0); Bryant (1-3-0)
  • Location: Smithfield, R.I. – Bulldog Soccer Field
  • The Lead: Holy Cross freshman forward Aly Spencer (Tewksbury, Mass.) tallied both Crusader goals including the game-winning tally with 12 seconds left in double overtime to help lead the Crusaders to a 2-1 victory over Bryant in non-conference women's soccer action on Tuesday afternoon.

 HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Spencer put the Crusaders on top 1-0 in the sixth minute of action (5:21). Spencer received a pass from sophomore forward Christina Napolitano (Concord, Mass.) from the right side and one-timed the ball into the back of the net.
  • Bryant knotted the score at 1-1 in the 67th minute (66:11). Sarah Shucker crossed the ball into the box to Scout Benson who tallied the game-tying marker.
  • The Crusaders held the upper hand in trying to break the stalemate for the remainder of the second half, with a 4-1 shot advantage, but neither team scored by the end of regulation.
  • With less than one minute in double overtime, Holy Cross took possession of the ball in its defensive end. The Crusaders pushed up the left side of the field, as freshman Caitlin Harty (Beverly, Mass.) received a pass on the left side of the box. She fed the ball to Spencer who broke through the Bulldog backline and ripped a shot past Bryant goalkeeper Kaylan Conrad for the game-clincher.

 INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Holy Cross senior goalkeeper Carly McCabe (Barrington, R.I.) picked up her fourth win of the season with three saves. Conrad made two saves for the Bulldogs.
  • Bryant held the 13-11 advantage in shots, as both teams had four shots on goal. Holy Cross held the 5-0 edge in corner kicks.
  • The goals by Spencer were her fifth and sixth of the season, while the assist by Napolitano is the first of her career.
