  • The Lead: Holy Cross sophomore forward Courtney Cohen (Lake Grove, N.Y.) scored her first collegiate goal in the 82nd minute to help lead the Crusaders to a 1-0 victory over Lehigh in Patriot League women's soccer action on Saturday evening. The Crusaders end the 2014 campaign with a 10-5-3 overall record, which are their most wins since 2000.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Lehigh held the 6-1 edge in total shots in the first half, including a shot by Emily Korber in the eighth minute that rang the crossbar. The Mountain Hawks also had a goal called back due to offsides in the 21st minute of action.
  • The Crusaders posted their first shot on goal in the contest in the 49th minute, as junior forward Annie Galvin (Attleboro, Mass.) sent a ball on target, but Lehigh goalkeeper Ashley Blanks made the save.
  • Holy Cross sophomore defender Claire Malone (Glen Ridge, N.J.) had a shot on goal off a free kick in the 57th minute, but Blanks again gathered the attempt.
  • The Crusaders had a great chance in the 75th minute, as freshman midfielder/forward Caitlin Harty (Beverly, Mass.) ripped a shot from the right side, but Blanks corralled the chance and prevented the rebound.
  • Holy Cross, however, finally broke through in the 82nd minute (81:36). Freshman forward Kara Shaw (Exeter, R.I.) sent a pass in from the right side, but Blanks was unable to gather the cross. The rebound went to Cohen in the middle of the box and she converted from two yards out to give Holy Cross the 1-0 lead.
  • The Mountain Hawks had back-to-back shots on target in the 83rd and 84th minutes, but Holy Cross senior goalkeeper Carly McCabe (Barrington, R.I.) made both saves to preserve the victory.
