Holy Cross Women's Soccer Ties Bryant, 2-2, In Double Overtime

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Holy Cross women's soccer team saw a 2-0 lead evaporate with less than three minutes remaining in the game Wednesday night, as the Crusaders tied Bryant 2-2 in double overtime. With the tie, Holy Cross moves to 2-3-1 overall, while Bryant moves to 2-4-1.

Senior Shelby Stand (Douglas, Mass.) opened up action with a quick goal less than one minute into the game. Just over two minutes into the second half the Crusaders scored again when freshman Sarah Kelley (Bedford, N.H.) scored her first goal of the season off an assist by Stand. Bryant began its comeback at the 78:48 mark when Krista Johnstone scored to cut Holy Cross' lead in half. With less than two and a half minutes remaining in the game, the Bulldogs tied the game on a goal by Ari Goldberg to force overtime. Neither team could find the back of the net in overtime action, ending the game in a 2-2 draw.

Senior Mary Ferketic (West Hartford, Conn.) made her fourth start in goal. Ferketic allowed two goals and recorded five saves. Bryant's goalie Kelsi Jacob allowed two goals and made six saves.

Holy Cross will take over a week off before returning to action at the Linda Johnson Smith Soccer Stadium on Friday, Sept. 24 in a 7:00 p.m. match up with Siena.
