2025 Holy Cross field hockey season preview

The Holy Cross field hockey team enters the 2025 season looking to make a statement in the Patriot League. The Crusaders return 18 letterwinners off last year’s team, while adding six freshmen to the mix.

TRIO OF MIDFIELDERS TO LEAD THE WAY

The Crusaders have will have three team captains for the 2025 campaign, in senior Julia Carrozza, junior Maguire Sturgis and junior Marissa MacLean. 

The trio of midfielders are staples in the lineup, having combined for 117 games and 53 points in their time on Mount St. James, along with four Patriot League Honor Roll and four NFHCA DI Academic Squad honors.

PRESEASON HONORS FOR NO. 6

Sturgis was named to the Preseason All-Patriot League team prior to the season. The midfielder from Topsfield, Mass., who started all 17 games for the Crusaders last season, finished the campaign with ten points on two goals and six assists, the second-most among returning players this season.

Class of 2026

CONSISTENCY

The Holy Cross field hockey senior class of forwards Kendall Blomquist and Coley Leo, midfielder Julia Carrozza, and defenders Megan Schienbein and Izzy van der Spuy bring a combined 206 games of collegiate experience to the field this season. The group of five has combined for 106 starts, 41 points (14 goals - 13 assists) and 7,232 minutes of play.

 

The Crusaders will also return nine players who started at least ten games last season in Schienbein, Blomquist, Carrozza, MacLean, Sturgis, juniors Meredith Schepens and Saskia Williams, and sophomores Mia McCloskey and Jocelyn Monti.

HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE

Holy Cross is slated to play a full schedule consisting of 16 games, ten of which will be played at the Hart Turf Field. 

The Crusaders will open the season with home matchups against Quinnipiac (Aug. 29) and Merrimack (Aug. 31).

Patriot League play will begin with a home matchup against Boston University on Friday, Sept. 26.

FRESH FACES
 

Six new faces join the Crusader ranks for the 2025 season. The Class of 2029 is made up of forwards Alexa Birch, Martina di Gregorio Giralt, and Hadley Rand; midfielders Ainsley Clough and Maeve Kiernan; and defenseman Rachel Egan.
