The Holy Cross football team will host the University of New Hampshire in its home opener on Saturday, Sept. 7 at Fitton Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.

The Crusaders dropped a heartbreaker to the University of Rhode Island, 20-17, on Aug. 31 at Meade Stadium to open their season. Senior running back Jordan Fuller had a go-ahead touchdown with 1:47 to go in the fourth quarter, but the Rams marched down the field to score with 19 seconds left, and Holy Cross (0-1) was unable to pull off the last-second miracle.

Fuller paced the Crusader offense, rushing for 139 yards on 28 carries. He was named the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week — for the fourth time in his career — as a result of his efforts.

LAST TIME THEY MET: With a 35-19 victory over the University of New Hampshire in the second round of the NCAA FCS playoffs on Dec. 3, 2022 at Fitton Field, the eighth-seeded Crusaders set a program record with their 12th win, improving to an unblemished 12-0 record on the year. Holy Cross advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals for the first time since 1983 for a matchup against South Dakota State, the eventual 2022 national champion. The Crusaders rushed for 320 yards on the day. Senior running back Peter Oliver had a career-high 175 rushing yards and ran for a pair of touchdowns. Junior quarterback Matthew Sluka ran for 103 yards and two touchdowns, including a 47-yard score, and passed for one more touchdown. Rainy and windy conditions made for a low-scoring first half, 7-5, but the Crusaders pulled away in the second half. The Crusaders held the Wildcats (9-4) to only 22 rushing yards — the lowest total by a Holy Cross opponent in 2022.

WITH A WIN, HOLY CROSS WOULD…

Improve to 13-3 in games played at Fitton Field since Spring 2021
Win its third straight home opener
Give Dan Curran his first win as head coach of the Holy Cross football program
