The Holy Cross football team continues Patriot League play with its Homecoming matchup scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 12 against Fordham. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Fitton Field.
Holy Cross enters the matchup after a convincing Patriot League-opening victory on the road at Colgate, with a 38-7 win on Oct. 5. Senior wide receiver Justin Shorter had a dominating performance, catching four touchdowns and totaling a career-best 140 yards on 11 receptions. Senior quarterback Joe Pesansky completed 25 of his 28 passes for 289 yards in the air. Sophomore running back Jayden Clerveaux totaled 72 yards on the ground. Junior receiver Max Mosey was all over the stat sheet, completing a 21-yard pass, scoring a rushing touchdown and catching two passes for 28 yards.
Shorter was named the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week after becoming the first Crusader since Brendan Flaherty in 2015 to score four receiving touchdowns in one game. The mark tied the program record for single-game touchdown receptions; he is the fourth player in Holy Cross history and 11th in Patriot League history with four touchdown receptions in a single game. He is also the only player at the FCS level to catch four touchdowns in a single game this season.
Freshman receiver Alijah Cason was named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week after totaling 42 receiving yards. Pesansky earned a nod as Holy Cross’ Crusader of the Week after his completion percentage of .893 completion percentage ranked as the second-highest single-game completion percentage in program history (min. 10 attempts), and the highest by a Crusader since the 1968 season. It is also tied for the second-best single-game completion percentage at the FCS level this year.
In a staunch defensive effort by Holy Cross, three different Crusaders secured an interception against Colgate: senior safety Jake Jarmolowich, sophomore cornerback Eli Thompson and sophomore cornerback Cam Jones. Sophomore linebacker Drew Spinogatti had a team-high nine tackles, while senior linebacker Frankie Monte tacked on eight tackles and a fumble recovery with a 12-yard return. Sophomore Cam Santee totaled six tackles and forced a fumble.
