Senior Kylie Hampton has always loved art.

From memories of post-kindergarten school day arts and crafts with her mom at her kitchen table, to majoring in studio art at Holy Cross, Hampton has always found herself doing something creative. So naturally, when the world shut down due to the pandemic, Hampton found herself trying to find a senior capstone project for her high school that could be done virtually. Reaching out to the front office of her school, Hampton found the perfect solution.

“I asked the Director of Social Media at Oak Knoll if I could shadow her, and from there, my passion for creative content took off,” Hampton said of her capstone experience. “I designed Instagram stories, a Snapchat filter for the Class of 2020’s drive-through Graduation, and an Instagram page highlighting each of my classmates’ accomplishments. I enjoyed connecting with people and receiving positive feedback about the content I created, especially at a time when everyone had to be isolated.”

With the experience from Oak Knoll on her resume, Hampton has taken advantage of plenty of creative content opportunities while at Holy Cross. Last year, the Patriot League recognized her talent, asking her to join their ranks as a Campus Correspondent.

“At the beginning of my junior year, I got an email from the Patriot League asking if I would be interested in being the Holy Cross Campus Correspondent,” said Hampton of how the opportunity came about. “I was able to create content about whatever I thought would be interesting, so I would think of fun questions to interact with other athletes whom I usually don’t get a chance to talk to. My favorite video I made would either be “Favorite Thanksgiving Food” or “Favorite Christmas Song” because hearing everyone’s answers was not only funny, but some were surprising!”

Her love for art did not just give her a way to express her love for high school or college classmates, but a way to showcase the work that her and her fellow Crusaders were doing in the community.

Working for Worcester, a student-run non-profit organization founded in 2012 by two Holy Cross hockey players who wanted to find a way to give back to the Worcester community, had an opening for their Director of Marketing position. Seeing it as the perfect way to get involved, Hampton applied for the position.

“W4W has its annual Build Day every spring, where thousands of volunteers unite by building, painting, gardening, and more at various sites across Worcester. I learned about W4W since many of my friends volunteered and loved it,” said Hampton of her initial involvement with Working for Worcester. “As Director of Marketing, I oversee and create content for all social media accounts and create merch designs. Being a member of Working for Worcester has been one of the most rewarding things I’ve done in my four years here on the hill. As a student-run non-profit organization, seeing all that is accomplished on Build Day and its significant impact on schools and kids is incredibly gratifying!”

With a Cousy Cup matchup against Bryant on Tuesday, Sept. 26 at 6 p.m., Hampton notes that this year’s team is as close as ever.

“This year’s team has become a second family to one another, and there is a sense of genuine camaraderie that even people not on the team can sense. I am living off-campus with a few other seniors on the team. Oftentimes, other girls will spontaneously come over just because we have so much fun spending time together. We continue to push each other in the weight room and on the field, which creates a fun and competitive environment. We’ve faced many challenges this early in the season, but we’ve continued to push through it together and have a resilient mindset.”

A political science and studio art double major, Hampton spent last summer in New York City as a Merchandising Intern at The TJX Companies, where she learned about the buying process. She has accepted a full-time position as an Allocation Analyst on the Merchandising Career Path at TJX, with hopes to become a buyer in the future.
