Potter, Crusaders look to bounce back against Bucknell

Since her sophomore season, senior Sarah Potter has been a staple in the lineup for the Holy Cross field hockey program. 

In three seasons, Potter has appeared in 39 games and started 28 for the Crusaders, tallying seven goals and two assists.  

“From the first day [at Holy Cross], I’ve always been extremely grateful for the opportunity to compete at this level and bring myself to new heights,” Potter said of the opportunity to play for the Crusaders. “Being a part of this team has made me grow so much on and off the field, and I love seeing the improvement of both the team and myself over the years!”

Despite the nearly 40 games that Potter has played in as a Crusader, her fondest memory as a member of the team came during preseason her second season.

“My most memorable time during my career here was definitely preseason my sophomore year,” Potter reminisced. “Coming out of a year and season filled with lots of restrictions due to COVID, the excitement and energy everyone had during this time was so fun. Also, my own personal excitement about being on the field and contributing to the team more.”

With their second Patriot League matchup of the season against Bucknell on Saturday, Sept. 23 at 1 p.m., Potter noted that the team looked at their Monday matchup against Boston University for what to improve on.

“One thing we focused on a lot after our BU game was the connection the forwards have with each other on the field,” Potter said of this week’s practices. “We spent a lot of time together during our practices and doing specific drills to improve [our connections]. I’m looking forward to seeing it come to life in our games and seeing it improve more and more over the season!”

A mathematics major, Potter has a lot of options for after graduation. For now, she’ll focus on the upcoming field hockey schedule and enjoying her senior year.
