The Lead: Junior captain Brad Ross scored for the Crusaders as the Holy Cross men's soccer team tied Navy, 1-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Crusaders took an early 1-0 lead in the second minute (1:43) when Ross sent a header from eight yards out to the back of the net off a corner kick by senior Joseph Metzger.
- Freshman goalie Bobby Hurstak made his first save of the game in the 27th minute when he prevented Sam Bascom from finding the back of the net.
- In the 49th minute (48:38), the Midshipmen tied the contest at 1-1 with a goal by Bascom from 20 yards out.
- Senior Joey DeVivo sent a shot that was saved by Mac Burke in the 82nd minute.
- Then in the 83rd minute, Hurstak made a save on a shot by Daniel Zaremba to keep the game tied at 1-1 as the contest entered overtime.
- Neither team was able to find the back of the net for the winner in overtime.
KOOLMAN'S KORNER:
- “This was a good result,” said Holy Cross head coach Marco Koolman. “It was nice to get a point on the road. Our team fought really hard and made some great scoring opportunities. We also defended really well.”
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Hurstak made five saves, while Burke posted seven.
- The Crusaders outshot the Midshipmen, 20-17. Holy Cross had nine shots on goal, while Navy had six.
UP NEXT:
- The Crusaders return to action on Oct. 16, when they host Patriot League opponent Colgate at 1:05 p.m.
