  • The Lead: Navy senior Jade Seabrook tallied the game-winning goal in the 50th minute to help lead the Midshipmen to a 2-0 victory over Holy Cross in Patriot League women's soccer action on Friday evening at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Navy had a pair of early chances in the 18th minute, as Clare MacAdam had back-to-back shots on net, but Holy Cross senior goalkeeper Carly McCabe (Barrington, R.I.) made both saves.
  • Holy Cross freshman midfielder/forward Emily George (East Montpelier, Vt.) launched a shot on target in the 38th minute, but Navy netminder Dayton Wetherby made the stop.
  • After a scoreless first stanza, Navy broke the stalemate in the 50th minute (49:28). Julie Schumacher sent a free kick into the box to Morgan Dankanich, who headed the ball toward goal where Seabrook redirected it past McCabe to give the Mids the 1-0 lead.
  • The Mids added an insurance marker in the 86th minute (85:36), as Dankanich received a long pass from Schumacher and finished near post to put Navy ahead 2-0.
  • Holy Cross had one final chance to cut into the deficit in the 87th minute, as freshman forward Aly Spencer (Tewksbury, Mass.) tried to loft a shot over Wetherby from six yards out, but the ball went over the crossbar.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • McCabe made eight saves in the contest for the visitors, while Wetherby was called upon to make a pair of stops for Navy.
  • The Mids held the advantage in total shots (18-5), shots on target (11-2) and corner kicks (5-1).

UP NEXT:

  • Holy Cross returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 22, when it travels to Army for a 6:00 p.m. kickoff.
