175th Anniversary Giving Challenge Yields Significant Support for Holy Cross Athletics
WORCESTER, Mass. – This year's giving challenge, celebrating the College's 175th anniversary and honoring the impact of generations of Holy Cross graduates, was a record breaker. The challenge kicked off at 6:00 a.m. on Jan. 25 with hundreds of volunteers rolling up their sleeves to begin outreach to friends and teammates. To encourage participation, a group of challengers donated $250,000 for every 1,000 donors, which at the end of the the two-day challenge resulted in over 6,300 donors equaling $1.75 million for the College.
During the challenge, over 2,000 alumni, parents and friends of Holy Cross Athletics made a gift to the Crusader Athletics Fund accounting for $237,094 in support of Crusader student-athletes.
"The 175th Anniversary Giving Challenge was a great example of the incredible pride our alumni, parents and friends have for Holy Cross and in particular our athletics programs," said Cara Hanrahan Abraham, director of the Crusader Athletics Fund. "The additional funding received during this two-day challenge will make a significant impact on the experience of our current student-athletes, setting them up for success when they leave the Hill to become the next generation of Holy Cross Difference Makers."
The programs with the top donor participation were cross country / track and field (390 donors), football (222 donors), rowing (203 donors), lacrosse (192 donors) and baseball (143 donors). The top programs in donations were lacrosse ($35,375), football ($32,739), cross country / track and field ($30,320), rowing ($18,460) and softball ($16,376).
