Manis, LaBarbera Earn Major WACBA Awards
WORCESTER, Mass. - Junior Lauren Manis and freshman Avery LaBarbera of the Holy Cross women’s basketball team earned major awards from the Worcester Area College Basketball Association (WACBA) on Wednesday, March 20.
For the second consecutive year, Manis was named the WACBA Player of the Year, while LaBarbera earned WACBA Rookie of the Year honors. Both were additionally named to the All-WACBA first team.
During the regular season, Manis averaged 17.1 points per game and 11.1 points per game, making her just one of three players in the league to average a double-double. She tallied 20 double-doubles in 29 regular-season games, ranking third in single-season program history in that category.
LaBarbera averaged 11.7 points per game – second-most on the team – during her regular-season campaign. She led all Patriot League freshmen in assists (85), 3-point percentage (.335), 3-pointers made (55) and free-throw percentage (.879). During 2018-19, she was the Crusaders' top scorer five times, while also leading Holy Cross with 39 steals.
Manis was a six-time WACBA Player of the Week selection and LaBarbera was named WACBA Rookie of the Week seven times.
The awards were voted upon by sports information directors or primary contacts from each of the nine NCAA schools in Worcester County as well as members of the local media.
Manis previously earned All-Patriot League first team honors and LaBarbera was named the Patriot League Rookie of the Year in early March.
The Crusaders finished the 2018-19 season with an 18-13 mark, their best record since the 2013-14 season, and their first appearance in the Patriot League Tournament semifinals since 2013-14.
