Three Crusaders Win Summer Baseball Championships
Three members of the Holy Cross baseball team won collegiate summer baseball league championships in 2019 – rising seniors Chris Rinaldi and Riley Livingston helped the Worcester Bravehearts win the team’s fourth Futures Collegiate Baseball League title in six years, while rising sophomore pitcher Frank Spano won a Hamptons Collegiate Baseball League championship with the Westhampton Aviators.
In six playoff games for the Bravehearts, Rinaldi hit .308 (8-for-26) with a triple, two stolen bases and five RBI; he batted 3-for-5 with two RBI in a decisive Game 3 of Worcester’s semifinal series vs. the Brockton Rox on Aug. 9 to advance to the championship series. Livingston hit .318 (7-for-22) in his six playoff appearances, including a 2-for-3 performance with a double, RBI and run scored in Game 1 of the championship series vs. the Bristol Blues on Aug. 10.
Livingston was an FCBL All-Star selection in July, hitting .261 on the summer with 10 RBI, three doubles and a home run.
Spano appeared in 10 games with one start for the Aviators during 2019, earning his first win of the year on July 22 after throwing two scoreless innings against the Shelter Island Bucks. He struck out 14 batters in 17.2 innings of work.
