Volleyball falls to Seattle U and Brown

DURHAM, N.H. – The Holy Cross volleyball team rounded out the Holly Young Invitational with a 3-2 loss against Seattle University, followed by another five set match against Brown, falling 3-2, on Saturday, Sept. 7.

Regan Wright had consecutive double-digit kill outings to lead the Crusaders with 16 kills against Seattle U and 14 kills against Brown. Two Crusaders hit the 20-digit mark in digs as Rachel Harding recorded 20 and Skye Daval-Santos added 21.

Holy Cross vs. Seattle U:

  • The Crusaders dropped the first set against Seattle U, 25-19. Santos posted four digs while Wright and Gracyn Benck each posted three kills.
  • Holy Cross took the second set 25-19 with a strong offensive effort from Katie Kerins (five kills) and Clare Honan (four kills).
  • The Crusaders maintained the pressure as they took the third set, 25-23, as Daval-Santos recorded a match-high eight digs. Wright also posted a match-high seven kills in the set.
  • Seattle U edged the Crusaders, 25-23, in the fourth to force the match to five sets.
  • The fifth set went to Seattle U by a score of 15-7. Wright and Johnna Shamley led the Crusaders, each with two kills.

Holy Cross vs. Brown:

  • Holy Cross topped Brown in the opening set, 25-22. Daval Santos added a match-high six digs.
  • Wright recorded a match-high six kills in the second set despite Brown evening up the score, 1-1, with a 27-25 set victory.
  • On her way to a double-double, Harding recorded five digs and four kills in a 25-22 set win for the Crusaders.
  • The fourth set went to the Bears, 25-14, as Honan posted a perfect 3-for-3 attacking percentage.
  • Brown capped off the match with a 15-11 victory. Harding led Holy Cross with four kills and two digs.

  • Holy Cross will play its first home game against Merrimack College on Tuesday, Sept. 10.
