Holy Cross Finishes Seventh at Quechee Club Collegiate Challenge
QUECHEE, Vt. – Freshman John Bowen finished in a tie for 12th place as an individual, to lead the Holy Cross men’s golf team to a seventh-place finish out of 12 schools in the Quechee Club Collegiate Challenge at the Quechee Club. Bowen totaled a 148 over two rounds to finish at four-over par, including an even-par 72 on Saturday in the first round of his collegiate career.
Freshman Collin Fitzpatrick tied for 21st place overall with a 150, while senior Jake Peer tied for 24th with a 151. Senior Joe Egan tied for 30th with a score of 152, and freshman Jack Phelan tied for 42nd with a 154.
Bucknell won the team title with a two-round total of 583, while Holy Cross totaled 601. Brown's Drew Powell was the individual medalist, winning on the first playoff hole after finishing in a four-way tie for first at four-under par (140).
The Crusaders return to action when they take part in the Bucknell Invitational at the Bucknell Golf Club in Lewisburg, Pa., from Oct. 8-9.
BEYOND THE RESULTS:
• Bowen’s Saturday round of 72 included 14 pars, 2 birdies and 2 bogeys.
• After opening the tournament with a double bogey, Egan played the last 17 holes on Saturday at one-over par.
• Fitzpatrick played Saturday’s final 14 holes at even par to finish with a round of 76.
