Holy Cross Among National Leaders in Graduation Success Rate
WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross’ athletic teams are tied for eighth in the nation with an overall graduation rate of 98 percent, according to the Graduation Success Rate Report which has been released by the NCAA. This marks the 12th straight year in which the Crusaders have posted a Graduation Success Rate of at least 97 percent.
“Holy Cross student-athletes continue to raise the bar academically, and once again, we are among the elite as a top-10 Division I academic institution,” said Holy Cross Director of Athletics Nathan Pine. “Academic achievement and success is of the utmost importance at Holy Cross and this national recognition is a testament to the efforts our student-athletes put in each and every day as we strive to excel in both academics and athletics.”
Holy Cross was one of four Patriot League institutions to rank in the top 20 in the nation in Graduation Success Rate, along with Lafayette (98 percent), Loyola (98 percent) and Colgate (97 percent). Only five other schools from New England earned top 20 rankings, in Harvard (100 percent), Dartmouth (99 percent), Yale (99 percent), Brown (98 percent) and Fairfield (97 percent).
Twenty-two of a possible 26 Holy Cross athletic teams achieved a perfect 100 percent graduation rate. The Crusader programs to post perfect graduation rates were baseball, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, men’s cross country, women’s cross country, field hockey, men’s golf, women’s golf, women’s lacrosse, women’s rowing, men’s soccer, women’s soccer, softball, men’s swimming and diving, women’s swimming and diving, men’s tennis, women’s tennis, men’s indoor track and field, men’s outdoor track and field, women’s indoor track and field, women’s outdoor track and field, and volleyball.
The data used to calculate the Graduation Success Rate is from the four-class aggregate of entering classes from 2008 through 2011, for which the NCAA has compiled sport-by-sport figures. The average Graduation Success Rate for all sports at the NCAA’s 352 Division I institutions stood at 88 percent.
