Men's Hockey Outlasts RIT, 4-3

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross men’s hockey team defeated RIT, 4-3, on Saturday night at the Hart Center. Peter Crinella led the team with one goal and one assist while Neil Robinson scored his second game-winning goal of the season. Holy Cross improves to 7-17-4 and 7-12-3 in Atlantic Hockey action while RIT falls to 13-12-3 and 11-8-4 in league play.


The Crusaders tallied the first goal only six minutes into the game on a breakaway play. RIT responded with a goal of their own almost 10 minutes later. Holy Cross was outshot 13-5 in the opening period and Erik Gordon made 12 saves.


RIT struck three twice in the middle frame, first three minutes into the period and again seven minutes later. Holy Cross closed the 3-1 gap with a power play goal at the 14:50 mark. The shots were even in the second period, 8-8.


The Crusaders evened the score, 3-3, in the third period at the 6:23 mark. The Crusaders tallied the go-ahead goal with less than five minutes to go in the period. With 1:30 remaining in the game, RIT pulled the goalie for an extra attacker and the Crusaders stood tall to win, 4-3.




1-0 HC (1st – 6:09, EV): Dalton Skelly dug the puck out of a scrum in the defensive zone and sent a stretch breakout pass to Peter Crinella, who then broke free on a breakaway. Crinella fired a shot from the slot to the top left corner of the goal.

1-1 RIT (1st – 15:38, EV): As RIT broke the puck out and developed an odd man rush, Ryan Kruper scored as Erik Brown slid the puck across the crease.

2-1 RIT (2nd – 3:39, EV): Kobe Walker took a shot from the middle slot and the rebound popped out to Andrew Petrucci on the post, who knocked it in.

3-1 RIT (2nd – 10:58, EV): Jake Joffee scored as the Tigers rushed uncontested towards Gordon. Joffee tapped the puck in on the near post.

3-2 HC (2nd – 14:50, PP): Peter Crinella took control of the puck in the offensive zone and took a shot in the high slot that forced RIT’s Logan Drackett to make a kick save and out of position. Michael Laffin skated into the slot and secured the rebound.

3-3 HC (3rd – 6:23, EV): Johnny Coughlin took the puck from the offensive blue line and circled towards the goal. Coughlin sent a low shot off the pad of Drackett to pop out to Ryan Leibold on the back door. Leibold quickly returned the puck towards the open goal.

4-3 HC (3rd – 15:43, EV): Kevin Darrar picked up the puck behind the goal in the defensive zone and skated to the corner where he sent a break out pass to a streaking Neil Robinson. Robinson rushed up the center of the ice and beat two RIT defenders to score a backhand goal.



  • Michael Laffin tallied his eighth goal of the season, to take the team lead.
  • Peter Crinella scored a goal and assist, having tallied six points in his last four games.
  • Neil Robinson scored his second game-winning goal of the season.




Holy Cross will host Robert Morris for two games on Feb. 15 and 16 at the Hart Center.
