Holy Cross Athletics   04-29-2019

WORCESTER, Mass. Four Holy Cross men’s lacrosse players have earned All-Patriot League honors, as voted on by the conference’s coaches. Senior defender Matt Farrell earned first team accolades while junior midfielder Sean Mullaney, junior attacker Kevin Kodzis, and junior faceoff specialist Dan O'Connell all earned second team honors.

The Crusaders’ four selections is the most in program history and only the second time that Holy Cross has placed multiple athletes on the All-Patriot League team. Matt Farrell is the program’s first-ever first team selection.

Farrell, a defender, leads the team in caused turnovers, with 33 on the season. He has also picked up a team-high 53 ground balls through the Crusaders 13 regular season games. Averaging 2.23 caused turnovers per game, Farrell ranks fifth in the nation and second in the Patriot League. The senior defender also ranks in the top-10 in the league in ground balls per game (3.92). This is the second all-league honor for the senior, having been the team’s only selection in the 2018 season.

Mullaney, a midfielder, leads the team in points, with 39. He has tallied 27 goals and 12 assists. His 27 goals leads the Crusaders. Mullaney has tallied at least one point in 11 of the Crusaders’ 13 regular season games. This is the first all-league honor for the junior.

Kodzis, an attacker, ranks second on the team in points, with 24 goals and 12 assists for 36 points. The junior is currently riding a 10-game point streak, having recorded four hat-tricks in that time. Kodzis has posted back-to-back four-point outings in his last two games played, with three goals and one assist. The attacker has added two man-up goals and one man-down goal on the season. This is the first all-league honor for the junior.

O’Connell, a faceoff specialist, owns a .649 winning percentage at the faceoff. He has taken 89% of the Crusaders’ faceoff to lead the team to a .623 winning percentage. O’Connell ranks second in the Patriot League in winning percentage and eighth nationally. He has consistently ranked in the top-10 nationally throughout the 2019 season. The faceoff specialist has also picked up 110 ground balls on the season, to lead the league in ground balls per game and rank eighth nationally (9.17). O’Connell became the first Crusader in program history to earn league Faceoff Specialist of the Week honors, and did so on three occasions during the season (April 15, April 8, Feb. 18).
