WORCESTER, Mass. – Head Holy Cross women’s ice hockey coach Katie Lachapelle has announced the team’s captains for the upcoming 2019-2020 season. Rising seniors Hannah Gillis and Victoria Young and rising junior Antonia Matzka will each serve as captains next season. All three defensemen will have C’s on their jerseys for the first time as Crusaders.

“We are really excited for Hannah, Victoria and Antonia to lead this team,” Lachapelle said. “This is a very important time for our program and their leadership will help us take the next step in our journey.”

Gillis played in all 33 games last year, in the team’s inaugural Hockey East season, and recorded two assists. One came in the Crusaders’ 2-2 tie against Maine. In her career, Gillis has scored two goals and helped on 21 more for 23 points.

Young also played in every game for Holy Cross last year and had two goals and five assists for seven points. She assisted on the game-tying goal against RPI, in which the Crusaders tied, 1-1. In her career, Young has accumulated eight goals and 16 assists for 24 points.

Matzka, a member of the Austrian National Team, participated in all 33 games for the Crusaders, recording one goal and five assists for six points. She assisted on two of the goals that lifted Holy Cross to a 5-3 victory over then-No. 5 Northeastern, the program’s first Hockey East win and first over a top-five team. In her career, the junior has posted five goals and 19 assists for 24 points.

“All three are great teammates and people and I know they will guide this team with a lot of passion and energy,” Lachapelle said. “We look forward to seeing them step into their captain roles and move this team forward.”
