Field Hockey Announces Incoming Class of 2023

WORCESTER, Mass. -  Holy Cross field hockey head coach Lindsay Jackson has announced the incoming freshman class of 2023 that is made up of six new Crusaders. The student-athletes include Emily Dionne, Isabella Henderson, Emma Lauber, Rachel Perry, Gabby Venezia, and Sinead Walsh.

“We are very excited to add the incoming class to our Holy Cross Field Hockey family," Jackson said. "They all bring unique characteristics and skills to the program, and will have an impact right away."

Dionne was a four-year varsity member at Chelmsford High School under head coaches Maura Devaney-Duah Asamoah and Rebecca Brown. She served as captain as a senior and was a three-time all-conference selection. She helped lead her team to conference championships during her sophomore and junior seasons. Dionne also played for the Wizards Field Hockey club team under head coach Sue Caples. In high school, she was a member of both the National Honor Society and the Spanish Honor Society.

Henderson played for head coach Shiv Jagady for two years at Presentation High School in San Jose, Calif. She was a two-time all-league selection and led the team to a SCVAL championship during her senior season. Henderson was also on the lacrosse team. She also played for the the San Jose Fly Field Hockey club team under head coaches Mary Donahue and Jote Atwal. Henderson was a member of Mu Aplha Theta, the math honor society.

Lauber, from Winnetka, Ill., was a three-year varsity member of the field hockey team at New Trier Township High School under head coach Stephanie Nykaza. She served as a team captain during her senior season and was named to the all-state and all-conference teams as a junior. Lauber helped the team to a state championship in 2018. The goalkeeper also played for the Windy City Field Hockey club team under head coach Katie Beach. She was named an Illinois State Scholar as a senior.

Perry played four years of varsity field hockey right down the road at Wachusett Regional High School under head coach Kerry Berry. She served as a team captain as a senior and was a Central Mass D1 Player of the Year honorable mention. She also played varsity lacrosse for two seasons. Perry played for the Cape Ann Field Hockey club team under head coach Chris Pothier. In high school, she was a member of the National Honor Society.

Venezia played for head coach Eileen Donahue at Watertown High School for four seasons and served as a team captain as a senior. She was named league MVP in 2018 as well as a first team all-conference selection. Venezia helped the team to four league and sectional championships and three state championships. She was also a four-year member of the lacrosse team. Venezia played club field hockey for the East Coast Wizards under head coach Sue Caples. She was a member of her school’s National Honor Society.

Walsh was a three-year member of the varsity squad at the Collegiate Girls’ High School in Port Elizabeth, South Africa under head coach Andrew Beynon. She also played indoor hockey for five years. Walsh played for the NMU club team also under head coach Beynon. She served as a prefect in high school.
