Thirteen Goal Scorers Pushes Women's Lacrosse Past Hartford, 21-9

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The Holy Cross women’s lacrosse team downed Hartford, 21-9. The Crusaders saw 11 different goal scorers in the first half with 15 goals. Maggie Moriarty led the team with five points and Bryn Carroll led with four goals to push the Crusaders to their second win of the season.

 

Holy Cross (2-5) rushed out to a 4-0 lead in the opening five minutes of action. Izzy Grant scored 22 seconds into the game, and was assisted by Molly Pfaff. Catherine Guanci added the second goal of the game, followed by two goals from Bryn Carroll.

 

Hartford (0-7) halted the Holy Cross run at 21:33 to get their first of the game. Holy Cross responded with two goals of their own. Riley Bergholtz scored at 18:06 and Jolie Creo at 17:34 (6-1). The Hawks put up two more goals in just over 30 seconds to shrink the Crusader lead, 6-3.

 

Creo fired off her second goal of the game to keep the Crusader lead at four goals, but Hartford scored within the minute, 7-4.

 

At 14:28, the Crusaders started a nine goal run to close the opening half. Shannon Dudeck let go of a free position to start the offensive domination. Margaret Mitchell, Baker Earl, and Emily Culbertson all put up goals for Holy Cross in a four minute span. Creo capped off her hat trick at the 8:06 and put the Crusaders well ahead, 12-4.

 

With 6:27 to play in the first half, Bryn Carroll earned her second hat trick of the season and gave the Crusaders a 13-5 lead. Keely Connors added a goal at 4:01 and then Maggie Moriarty closed out the first half scoring at 2:22. The goal marked Moriarty’s fifth point of the day, having already tallied four assists.  

 

The second half started with two more Crusader goals as Grant and Bergholtz tallied their second goals of the day (17-5). In exactly one minute, Hartford recorded two goals at 21:25 and 20:25.

 

Peyton Sventy recorded her first collegiate point, assisting on Carroll’s fourth goal of the day. At 10:02, Lauren Cunning scored her first goal as a Crusader on a free position. Sventy followed with her first career goal less than four minutes later. Mitchell finished the day with her second at 5:33.

 

Hartford scored the last goal of the game at 4:33 to end the game, 21-9.

  • Thirty one of the Crusaders 36 shots came on goal.
  • Holy Cross had just 10 turnovers in the game and went 17-17 on the clear.
  • The Crusaders caused 10 turnovers.
  • Holy Cross saw thirteen different goal scorers, marking the most of the year. 

 

CRUSADER LEADERS:

  • Moriarty led with five points from four assists.
  • Keely Connors led with eight draw controls.
