Men's Basketball Travels to Bucknell for Patriot League Quarterfinals
The Holy Cross men’s basketball team continues play in the Patriot League Tournament when it travels to Bucknell for a quarterfinal round game on Thursday, March 7, at 7:00 p.m. The contest between Crusaders and the Bison will be televised live by Stadium and the Patriot League Network, and can be heard on WEEI 1440 AM in Worcester.
The No. 10 seed in the Patriot League Tournament, Holy Cross is coming off a 79-74 victory at Lafayette in the first round. The Crusaders currently own an overall record of 16-16, and posted a 6-12 mark in regular season league games. Holy Cross currently leads the Patriot League in turnover margin (+4.0 turnovers per game) and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.5-to-1).
Sophomore guard Jacob Grandison has led the team by averaging 13.9 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game, while senior forward Jehyve Floyd has added 12.9 points, 6.2 boards, 3.5 assists and 2.4 blocks per contest. Sophomore guard Austin Butler has put up 12.6 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game, with sophomore guard Caleb Green posting 10.9 points, 3.2 assists and 2.8 boards per contest.
Bucknell stands 19-11 overall this year with a 13-5 mark in Patriot League play. The Bison have lost three of their last five games, but did defeat Army West Point 62-61 on Saturday.
Senior guard Kimbal Mackenzie has led the team by averaging 16.9 points and 2.9 assists per game, while making 86.1 percent of his foul shots. Senior forward Nate Sestina has added 15.5 points and 8.4 rebounds per contest, while junior forward Bruce Moore is chipping in with 10.0 points and 5.0 boards per game. Bucknell is led by head coach Nathan Davis, who stands 87-44 in four seasons with the Bison.
The winner of the Holy Cross-Bucknell game will move on to the Patriot League semifinals, where it will play the winner of Thursday’s Army West Point-Lehigh contest on Sunday, March 10.
