Crusaders Head to Lafayette for Patriot League First Round
The Holy Cross men’s basketball team will begin Patriot League Tournament action when it plays at Lafayette in the first round on Tuesday, March 5, at 7:00 p.m. The contest between Crusaders and the Leopards will be televised live by the Lafayette Sports Network and the Patriot League Network, and can be heard on WEEI 1440 AM in Worcester.
Holy Cross stands 15-16 overall this year with a 6-12 mark in the Patriot League. The Crusaders have lost three of their last four games and are coming off an 86-66 setback against American at Saturday. Holy Cross currently leads the Patriot League in scoring defense (69.2 points per game), assists (15.8 assists per game), turnover margin (+4.0 turnovers per game) and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.5-to-1).
Sophomore guard Jacob Grandison has led the team by averaging 13.7 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game, while sophomore guard Austin Butler has added 12.7 points, 4.4 boards and 1.5 steals per contest. Senior forward Jehyve Floyd has put up 12.5 points, 6.1 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.5 blocks per game, with sophomore guard Caleb Green posting 10.7 points, 3.2 assists and 2.8 boards per contest.
Lafayette stands 10-19 overall this year with a 7-11 mark in Patriot League play. The Leopards have lost their last three games, and were defeated by Colgate 76-70 on Saturday.
Sophomore guard Justin Jaworski has led the team by averaging 14.4 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game, while making 48.8 percent of his three-point field goal attempts. Sophomore guard Alex Petrie has added 14.2 points per contest, while senior forward Paulius Zalys is chipping in with 10.1 points and 4.8 rebounds per game. Lafayette is led by head coach Fran O’Hanlon, who stands 322-392 in 24 seasons with the Leopards.
The winner of the Holy Cross-Lafayette game will move on to the Patriot League quarterfinals, where it will play at Bucknell on Thursday, March 7, at 7:00 p.m.
