Crusaders Set for Senior Day Game with American
The Holy Cross men’s basketball team will play its final regular season game of the year when it faces American at 12:05 p.m. on Saturday, March 2. Prior to tip-off, members of the Crusaders’ senior class will be honored in a special pregame ceremony. The contest between Holy Cross and American will be televised live by NESNplus and the Patriot League Network, and can be heard on WEEI 1440 AM in Worcester.
The Crusaders stand 15-15 overall this year with a 6-11 mark in the Patriot League. Holy Cross is currently tied for ninth place in the conference and can be seeded anywhere from eighth through 10th in the Patriot League Tournament. In order to finish in eighth place, the Crusaders need to win and also get victories by Boston University and Lehigh on Saturday.
Sophomore guard Jacob Grandison has led the team by averaging 13.7 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game, while sophomore guard Austin Butler has added 12.8 points, 4.4 boards and 1.5 steals per contest. Sophomore forward Jehyve Floyd has put up 12.3 points, 6.1 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.3 blocks per game, with sophomore guard Caleb Green posting 10.6 points, 3.2 assists and 2.8 boards per contest.
American stands 14-14 overall this year with an 8-9 mark in Patriot League play. The Eagles can lock up the No. 4 seed in the Patriot League Tournament with a win, and could fall as far as seventh with a loss.
Junior guard Sa’eed Nelson has led the team by averaging 19.5 points, 5.6 rebounds, 5.2 assists and 2.4 steals per game, while hitting 50.4 percent of his field goal attempts. Sophomore forward Sam Iorio has added 13.4 points and 6.5 boards per contest, while junior center Mark Gasperini is chipping in with 10.5 points and 4.7 rebounds per game.
Following the contest with American, the Crusaders will play in the first round of the Patriot League Tournament on Tuesday, March 5.
