Men's Basketball Falls at Colgate

HAMILTON, N.Y. – Senior forward Jehyve Floyd totaled 19 points, three rebounds, three assists and two blocked shots, but the Holy Cross men's basketball team was defeated by Colgate 79-59 at Cotterell Court. The Crusaders fall to 15-15 overall and 6-11 in the Patriot League with the loss, while the Raiders improve to 20-10 on the season and 12-5 in the conference.

Holy Cross made just 43.4 percent of its field goal attempts and 28.6 percent of its three-pointers on the night. Colgate was able to connect on 54.7 percent of its shots from the floor and 47.8 percent of its attempts from beyond the arc, while holding a 35-19 rebounding advantage.

The Crusaders opened the game by jumping out to an early 5-2 lead, before the Raiders scored the next nine points to pull in front 11-5 with 11 minutes left in the first half. Holy Cross came back to tie the score at 13-13, but Colgate then closed the half with a 16-5 run to take a 29-18 advantage into the locker room.

After the Raiders increased their lead to 14 points (34-20) early in the second half, Holy Cross scored 11 straight point to pull back to within three (34-31) with 16 minutes remaining. Floyd scored six of his points during that spurt. The score stayed close for several minutes, and Colgate led 56-51 with 8:27 left to play. But the Crusaders would score just eight points the rest of the night, as the Raiders pulled away for a 20-point victory.

Sophomore forward Matt Faw recorded 13 points and two rebounds in the game, while sophomore guard Jacob Grandison added 11 points, six rebounds and three steals. Rapolas Ivanauskas led Colgate with 28 points and eight rebounds.

The Crusaders will return to action on Saturday, March 2, when they play host to American in their regular season finale at 12:05 p.m.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
• Floyd recorded his 70th blocked shot of the season with 9:35 left in the first half to break the Holy Cross single-season record for blocks.
• Faw has now averaged 15.5 points over his last two games, while hitting seven of 14 shots from three-point range during that time.
