WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross women’s hockey team hosts Providence this Friday at 7:05 p.m. The game will carry extra meaning seeing as it is both Senior Night and head coach Peter Van Buskirk’s final game on the Crusader bench.

Senior Spotlight
• This will be Jackie Gellner’s 106th game as a Crusader. She has recorded two goals and 15 assists for 17 points in her career. She assisted on the goal that gave the Crusaders a 3-1 win over Salve Regina as a sophomore, and most recently had the helper on a goal in a win over Franklin Pierce last season.
• This is Tori Messinas 105th game as a Crusader. She has recorded 13 goals and 29 assists for 42 points in her career. Most recently, she lit the lamp against Merrimack in November of 2018. She has recorded a career-high three points twice, most recently during her junior season against Post.
• This will be Amanda Kewer’s 98th game with the Crusaders. She has recorded seven goals and 16 assists for 23 points. She tallied a goal in the team’s first ever Hockey East win, 5-3 over No. 5 Northeastern. Kewer has volunteered as a site leader for three years with Working for Worcester, a community service group that aims to improve recreational opportunities for the youth of Worcester.
• Danielle Doherty will play in her 110th game as a Crusader. She has recorded 15 goals and 22 assists for 37 points over the last four seasons. She recorded a career-high three points in a game against Saint Michael’s as a junior. Doherty has been an active member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee during her time at Holy Cross.
Sam Girard has played in 99 games with the Crusaders. She has tallied 35 goals and 33 assists for 68 points during her time on the Hill. She recorded a career-high four points in a game against Southern Maine in her sophomore season. Her eight career game-winning goals are tied for 10th all-time in program history.
• This will be Julie Matthias’ 115th game with the Crusaders. She has recorded 45 goals and 39 assists for 84 points. She had four assists, a career-high, in the team’s first Hockey East win over No. 5 Northeastern and received Hockey East Co-Player of the Week honors for her efforts. Her 45 goals are tied for eighth, her eight game-winning goals are tied for 10th , and her five short-handed goals are third all-time in program history.
• This is Maeve Reilly’s 106th game as a Crusader. She has 27 goals and 33 assists for 60 points in her career. She recorded the game-winning goal in the team’s historic 5-3 win over No. 5 Northeastern and had a career-high three points four times, most recently against Franklin Pierce during her junior season.
Thank You Coach Van Buskirk
• After 34 years at Holy Cross, 19 as the head coach of the women’s hockey team, Peter Van Buskirk has announced that he will retire at the end of this season. 
• He has posted a 295-175-33 record at the helm of the women’s program and coached in his 500th game on Feb. 3 at home against Vermont.
• Current associate head coach Katie Lachapelle will take over as head coach at the end of the season. 
Scouting the Friars
• Providence is led by Maureen Murphy and her 21 goals and 19 assists for 40 points.
• Madison Myers has played all but two games in goal for the Friars and has posted a .924 save percentage with a 1.84 goals against average.
• Providence has scored on 18.6% of its power plays and has killed 86.4% of its penalties.
Last Time Against Providence
• The Crusaders last faced off against the Friars on Dec. 7 in Providence, when they lost to the then-No. 8 Friars, 5-1.
• Providence scored the first two goals of the game, before Reilly put Holy Cross on the board to cut the lead to 2-1. 
• The Friars ended the game on a 3-0 run to claim the victory.
Recapping Last Weekend
• The Crusaders traveled to Vermont to play two games against the Catamounts. 
• Holy Cross dropped both, 3-0 and 4-1, with Rachel Moore scoring the lone Crusader goal.
