Men's Basketball Opens Homestand Against Colgate
The Holy Cross men’s basketball team opens a three-game homestand when it faces Colgate at 7:35 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 13. The contest between the Crusaders and the Raiders will be televised live by NESN and the Patriot League Network, and can be heard live on WEEI 1440 AM in Worcester.
The Holy Cross-Colgate game is the second half of a doubleheader, which also features the Crusader women’s basketball team against Navy at 5:05 p.m. Holy Cross will donate 20 percent of all regularly priced tickets sold for the doubleheader to the Ava Roy Fund, which was created to provide support for the nine-year-old daughter of fallen Worcester Firefighter Christopher Roy, who died in the line of duty on Dec. 9.
Holy Cross stands 13-12 overall this year with a 4-8 mark in the Patriot League. The Crusaders are coming off a 69-67 setback at Lafayette on Sunday. Holy Cross currently leads the Patriot League in scoring defense (67.8 points per game), assists (16.2 assists per game), turnover margin (+3.8 turnovers per game) and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.5-to-1).
Sophomore guard Jacob Grandison has led the team by averaging 14.0 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game, while sophomore guard Austin Butler has added 13.2 points, 4.8 boards and 1.4 steals per contest. Sophomore forward Jehyve Floyd has put up 11.5 points, 5.9 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 2.2 blocks per game, with sophomore guard Caleb Green posting 10.8 points, 3.2 assists and 3.0 boards per contest.
Colgate stands 15-10 overall this year with a 7-5 mark in Patriot League play. The Raiders have won five of their last seven games, including a 75-72 victory over Loyola (Md.) on Saturday.
Sophomore guard Jordan Burns has led the team by averaging 16.8 points, 5.9 assists and 3.5 rebounds per game, while hitting 81.4 percent of his free throws. Junior forward Rapolas Ivanauskas had added 15.6 points and 8.5 boards per contest, while junior forward Will Rayman is chipping in with 13.1 points and 6.4 rebounds per game. Colgate is led by head coach Matt Langel, who stands 105-141 in eight seasons with the Raiders.
After the contest with Colgate, the Crusaders will remain at home to face Bucknell on Saturday, Feb. 16, at 12:05 p.m.
